It’s with a heavy heart that I write this quick post remembering one of my favorite music video directors…Nathanial Hörnblowér (1964-2012).
He pretty much exclusively worked with the Beastie Boys, directing some of their greatest videos over the course of their decades spanning career…“So What Cha Want,” “Intergalactic,” “Body Movin” and “Ch-Check It Out”.
He was rarely in front of the camera, but Hörnblowér‘s unique and personal vision was always the guiding hand in the Beastie’s trend setting approach to making music videos. His videos are fun-filled romps with allusions to cult movies like WOLFEN, KAIJU flicks and DANGER: DIABOLIK that helped refine and solidify the Beastie’s reputation as a generation’s hip(ster)-hop ambassadors.
Here’s a 1992 interview with Nathanial, Mike, and Adam talking music videos, traditional Swiss clothing, and car horns.
I know y’all have probably been watching Beastie videos since yesterday…but I feel compelled to post a few anyway:
