Paperback Memories

In the 1970s and 80s my mom had a lot of paperbacks laying around…some of them had the coolest covers.

Here are few covers that I remember being obsessed with as a young man:

And then there’s this picture of Lawrence Sanders.

Why am I including a picture of an author but not one of his books in a post about book covers?

First off, I have weirdly fond memories of Mr. Sanders and his fabulous mustache, tweed jacket, and turtleneck. As a kid I was convinced that’s what all male authors must look like…oh, and I was positive that all authors smoked and only wrote on typewriters.

And secondly, one of his books is included: Anyone else remember CAPER? It was written under the pseudonym Lesley Andress.
